FROM PLAB TO RESIDENCY: Training and non-training posts.

A Training post.

A job in which there is progress in learning.

An example is the residency programme. You're employed, you're being paid, and there is career progress, up until you become a consultant.

Examples of training posts in the UK are the Foundation years 1 and 2, designated as FY1 and FY2. the core training posts CT 1, CT 2, CT 3 and the specialist training posts. ST1 - 8.



A Non training post.

A Non training post is one in which there is no progress in learning. Its stationary. A typical example is a medical officer of health.

A medical officer is employed by the government but no real progress in learning. He does not become a consultant.

In the UK more often than none we get non-training posts. But these posts have levels.

For example i can get a job on FY2 level, with the same benefits, salary scale and duties, but because it is a non-training variant of the job, there is no real progress.

You stay on that level till you resign.

Same thing with non-training posts on CT level, etc.

Please note the terms as i would frequently refer to these terms.
